Deciding to Homeschool your child or children is a big step, and you want to do everything to ensure they get all the advantages and enrichment opportunities that they would get going to school every day, or even better.
While there are online programs available, you should also give your child opportunities to attend other classes and programs outside of traditional school that will teach them practical skills, offer them a chance to socialize, and use equipment you don’t have access to at home.
Below are five great programs or classes your child can do to enrich their education. (And give you a break!)
Snapology offers the best STEM and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) classes for children aged 2-14 in the Forest Hills area. Snapology helps them learn through play, and they offer year-round programs where your child can use Lego, K’Nex and various forms of technology to learn topics like robotics, animation, drones, and video game design. When children go to Snapology they often don’t realize they are there to learn – and we’re not going to tell them!
Una Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu offers an extremely well-reviewed children’s programs in jiu-jitsu and kickboxing for children as young as 4 years old. They break the classes up into narrow age groups to ensure kids are about the same size and are at the same level.
Further Music School offers children a professional musical education through group piano lessons. Each child gets their own individual piano or digital piano instead of a keyboard, and they attend the annual formal to perform in the recital as an individual or in their group. Children as young as 4 are welcome to come along to join in the lessons, games, and exercises in class, and take home some musical theory work to do independently.
All Star Studios offer dance classes for toddlers, children, and teens. They offer classes in tap, jazz, contemporary, ballet, pointe, hip hop, and acrobatics. All classes are designed to encourage performers at every level to develop their skills, become more flexible, more confident, and have a lot of fun. New students get a free trial lesson to see if they enjoy the class.
